ANNOUNCEMENTS
UNIVERSITY FACULTY MEETING -TODAY, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2001, from 11:45 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. in the
Stetson Room. The topic for discussion will be academic quality, using the senate report on academic quality as a
basis. The expectation is that the faculty will have read the report prior to the meeting. The format of the meeting
will be small group discussions, with time at the end for each group to report highlights of its discussion to the
entire group. Suggestions from each group will be taken to the senate and to the academic quality steering
committee. In order for the small group discussions to be effective, we ask that faculty be prompt in their arrival,
and that we get good representation from the schools and college. Lunch will be served, beginning at 11:45 a.m.

A Sunday Memorial Service to Honor Lenoir Almand, retired Associate Professor of Piano, is planned for 1 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 23, in Elizabeth Hall Chapel. She died Aug. 18 after a long illness. The service will feature tributes
in words and music to her life and career as a teacher, musician, colleague and friend. School of Music Dean Jim
Woodward will participate, along with faculty members Boyd Jones, Price Professor of Organ; Michael Rickman,
Professor of Piano; Mollie Rich and Robert Rich, Professors of Voice; and Robert Fort, retired Professor of Church
Music. One of Mrs. Almand's best known students, Richard Cass, Professor of Music at the University of
Missouri, Kansas City, and a well-known concert pianist and teacher, will also participate.
Mrs. Almand taught at the Manhattan School of Music, Brearley School for Girls, The Juilliard School of Music
and Furman University. She married Dr. Claude M. Almand of Louisville in 1949 and moved to DeLand in 1953
when he was named dean of Stetson's School of Music. She joined Stetson's faculty after her husband's death in
1957. After her retirement in 1977, she served on the School of Music's Board of Advisers. In 1994 she
established the Claude and Lenoir Almand Endowed Chair of Composition at Stetson, to which memorial
donations may be made through the School of Music, Unit 8399.
