THURMAN LECTURER TO DISCUSS AFRICAN-AMERICAN LEADERSHIP IN THE 21 ST CENTURY. Dr. Ronald
Walters will present the next Howard Thurman Lecture at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 4, in the Stetson Room
of the Carlton Union Building. His topic will be "African-American Leadership in the 21st Century." Dr. Walters
is a prolific author whose works include African-American Leadership. Black Presidential Politics in America, and
Pan Africanism in the African Diaspora. A highly-regarded spokesman for the African-American community and
expert on presidential politics, he served as advisor for The Reverend Jesse Jackson's 1984 and 1988 presidential
campaigns. He is Director of the University of Maryland's African-American Leadership Program, as well as a
professor of government, politics and African-American Studies.

STETSON'S FALL BLOOD DRIVE will be held next week, November 3-4, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the
Stetson Room of the Carlton Union Building. Because the Volusia County Blood Bank (a part of the Central Florida
Blood Bank) is now the supplier of blood products to many of the hospitals in Volusia County, including those on
the west side of the county, we are now splitting our blood drives between the Volusia County Blood Bank and
the American Red Cross. The drive for this fall will be conducted by the Volusia County Blood Bank. Please
donate blood and encourage your friends, colleagues, and students to give also. If you have any questions, you

FACULTY-Please announce to your students that The Reverend Dudley Rose, Director of Field Education at
Harvard Divinity School, will be available to meet with students today Friday, October 29 from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00
p.m., Carlton Union Building. Information on both the Master of Divinity and the Master of Theological Studies
degree programs, as well as general descriptions of the doctoral programs, will be available. Reverend Rose can
also provide details on special resources at Harvard Divinity School including Field Education with the Office of
Ministerial Studies, Women's Study in Religion Program, the Center for the Study of World Religions, and the
