ANNOUNCEMENTS
Live in Elizabeth Hall-Friday, September 3, at 7:30 p.m.. David Bjella (cello), and Michael Rickman (piano) will
present a recital featuring three jewels of the cello literature: Sonatas by Francour and Debussy, and Gabriel
Faure's "Elegy." The highlight of the concert will be a complete performance of Messiaen's "Quartet for the End
of Time." The quartet, -a high-point of 20th century-act music, was first performed by Messiaen and three fellow
prisoners at a German military prison camp in 1941. Joining Professor Bjella and Dr. Rickman will be Dr. Lynn
Cholka on clarinet, and violinist Joseph Scheer, the Concertmaster of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra.
KAREN RIFAS-lnstallation Artist to open Duncan Gallery Season of Exhibitions. The Miami artist plans to fill the
gallery area with strands of stitched oak leaves stretched from the ceiling and walls to the floor, thus creating an
ephemeral atmosphere resembling the gallery's unique personality. She will utilize the Sampson Hall display cases
as well, with a variety of manmade materials, to convey themes of personal identity, societal control, myth,
symbol, and stereotype. Nationally and internationally recognized, Ms. Rifas will attend an opening reception on
Friday, September 10, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and will give a lecture in the Instructional Media Large Group Conference
Room on Friday at 1:30 p.m. Her exhibition continues through October 8. Lecture and reception are free and open
to the public. Arts & Sciences cultural credit applies to both events. From: Chris Nelson

FAREWELL RECEPTION FOR MARY McBRIDE: Please join CIT in honoring Mary McBride for her many years of
service to Stetson. Come wish her well in her new endeavors on Friday, September 3, at 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. in the

RONN GOSSELIN MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT (formerly known as the Stetson University Golf Tournament)
is scheduled for Saturday, September 18, DeLand Country Club, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The format for
this tournament is Best Ball/Blind Draw Golf Scramble. The entry fee of $35 includes: green fees, cart, prizes,
lunch, and many surprises! The field is open to all Stetson employees, dependents, partners, retirees, or an affiliate
of Stetson University. For more information on this tournament contact Bill O'Connor, Tournament Director, at
