REMINDER: KAREN RIFAS-lnstallation Artist to open Duncan Gallery Season of Exhibitions. The Miami artist plans
to fill the gallery area with strands of stitched oak leaves stretched from the ceiling and walls to the floor, thus
creating an ephemeral atmosphere resembling the gallery's unique personality. She will utilize the Sampson Hall
display cases as well, with a variety of manmade materials, to convey themes of personal identity, societal control,
myth, symbol, and stereotype. Nationally and internationally recognized, Ms. Rifas will attend an opening reception
today Friday, September 10, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and will give a lecture in the Instructional Media Large Group
Conference Room on Friday at 1:30 p.m. Her exhibition continues through October 8. Lecture and reception are
free and open to the public. Arts & Sciences cultural credit applies to both events. From: Chris Nelson
Live in Elizabeth Hall-Friday, September 10, 7:30 p.m., Ann Adams (Oboe) and Kristie Bom (piano). On this 20th
Century French program, Adams and Born will perform sonatas by Poulenc and Dutilleux as well as the colorful

The Faculty Senate will meet Monday. September 13, at 6:45 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge. Dinner will be served
in the Faculty Lounge, preceding the meeting at 6:00 p.m. All interested faculty are invited to attend the meeting.

MEMBERS OF THE STETSON COMMUNITY. Over the next couple of weeks, members of the University Mission
Statement Task Force/SACS Institutional Purpose Self-Study Committee will be participating in informal forums
to discuss the proposed revised University Mission Statement (published in the September 3 edition of The
Newsletter). We invite you to join us in dialogue about the proposed Mission Statement. The dates, times,
locations, and invited participants for some of these forums are as follows:
• Tuesday. September 14. 8:30 - 10:00 a.m.
Library faculty will meet in Room 5L of the duPont-Ball Library.
• Thursday. September 16. 8:30- 10:00 a.m.
Library staff will meet in Room 5L of the duPont-Ball Library.
• Friday. September 17. noon to 1:00 p.m.
(Lunch to be provided for the following three sessions)
College of Arts & Sciences faculty will meet in Allen Hall Auditorium.
School of Business faculty will meet in the Lynn Business Center Board Room.
School of Music faculty will meet in Room 101, Presser Hall.
Meeting dates, times, and places for the SGA/Reoorter forum with students and those with various staff groups
will be announced in a future edition of The Newsletter and over staff-announce and student-announce.
