ANNOUNCEMENTS
PHOTOGRAPHY/CERAMICS EXHIBITIONS OPEN. Anna Tomczak, a photographer from Lake Helen, and Cheryl
Tall, a ceramist from Stuart, Florida, will be on hand tonight (Friday, November 6) at an opening reception for their
works in the Duncan Gallery of Art and the Foyer Gallery of Sampson Hall. The reception, 6-8 p.m., sponsored
by President Lee, is free and open to the public. Exhibitions continue through December 11, 1998.
MICHAEL RICKMAN BENEFIT CONCERT. Dr. Michael Rickman will be performing a benefit piano concert for the
Friends of Art on Saturday, November 21, 1998, 7:30 p.m. in the intimate setting of the Duncan Gallery of Art
(where acoustics for this type of performance are exceptional!). Tickets are $10 each. Seating is limited, so please
make arrangements early by calling ext. 7266.
INTERNATIONAL CERAMICS SCULPTOR TO SPEAK. Patti Warashina, celebrated national/international ceramist,
will be on the Stetson campus two days next week. She will give a slide lecture in Rinker Auditorium, 7:30 p.m.
on Thursday, November 12 and will conduct a demonstration/workshop on her techniques from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
in the Sampson Hall ceramics studio on Friday, November 13th. Both events are free and open to the public.
Lecture is an approved A&S cultural credit event for students. From: Chris Nelson
Live in Elizabeth Hall, Sunday, November 8, 3:00 p.m.—Woodwind Ensembles from the studios of flutist Jean
West, clarinetist Lynn Cholka, oboist Ann Adams, bassoonist Ashley Heintzen, and saxophonist Jim Bishop will
perform works for various assortments of woodwind instruments. Among the groups represented are the clarinet
choir (performing a transcription of Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings, and Josef Rheinberger's Introduction and
Passicag/ia) the flute choir, an oboe trio, a woodwind quintet, and a saxophone quartet.
Live in Elizabeth Hall, Tuesday, November 10, 7:30 p.m.—The fall concert of the Campus Chorale, with Robert
Rich conducting.
Live in Elizabeth Hall, Friday, November 13. 7:30 p.m. —Alvaro Gomez will conduct the Stetson Chamber Orchestra
in a concert of music by Vivaldi, Mendelssohn, Albinoni-Giazotto, Janacek, Tchaikovsky, and Brahms. Soloists
for the Vivaldi Concerto are Marcella Jedlicka, Elizabeth Napier, and Clara Knotts. Alvaro founded the Chamber
Orchestra 7-1/2 years ago to provide string players an opportunity to perform music for strings alone. The Chamber
Orchestra will take this concert to Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Daytona on November 14. From: Jan Kindred
SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE. The Campus Community is invited to a worship service on Tuesday, November 10,
at 10:00 a.m. in the Elizabeth Hall Chapel for a service of remembrance in honor of members of the community
who have died in the past year. This service of Christian worship will be between 45-50 minutes in length.
