ANNOUNCEMENTS
The November Faculty Senate meeting will be Monday, November 2, in the Rinker Auditorium of Davis Hall. The
meeting will begin at 6:45 p.m. Jud Stryker will be present to provide a status report about recent changes in the
Human Resources Office and on the tuition exchange program at Stetson.
Representatives from the Human Resources Office and Poe & Brown will be making presentations on benefits
options (medical, vision, dental, and voluntary life) for this coming year, including a presentation on the possibility
of becoming self-insured. This meeting will serve as a University-wide faculty forum to provide information on
benefits and issues and to receive feedback from the faculty on benefit options. The most current options for all
benefits will be presented. This is an opportunity for faculty to gain information on the process of constructing
our benefits package as well as to ask specific questions about these benefits. This meeting is a joint effort
between the Human Resources Office, the Benefits Focus Group, and the Senate Faculty Welfare Committee to
provide a forum for presentation and discussion regarding benefits in a healthy, positive format and in the spirit
of cooperation and communication.
All faculty are encouraged to attend this timely discussion on University benefits. Open enrollment will be taking

The Fall Blood Drive conducted by the American Red Cross will be held on campus Wednesday and Thursday,
November 4 and 5 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Stetson Room of the Carlton Union Building. Your
support of the Blood Drive is extremely important. Lead the way and show our students your commitment in
helping others. Your friends, neighbors, and family depend upon the Red Cross for blood and blood products. If
you do not donate, the supply of blood may not be adequate. Please donate and encourage your friends,

Live in Elizabeth Hall, Friday, October 30, 7:30 p.m.—The Stetson Opera Workshop, coached by Jane Christeson
and Craig Maddox. See last week's Newsletter for details.
Live in Elizabeth Hall, Sunday, November 1, 3:00 p.m.—The Stetson Brass Ensembles will include the Brass Choir,
conducted by David Schmidt, the Absolut Brass Quintet, a yet-unnamed freshman brass quintet, and a tuba
quartet. The Absolut Brass Quintet will present the world premiere of Impressions for Brass by Stetson trumpeter
Frank Taylor, who will also perform with the group. Other, less significant, composers represented on the concert
are Gabrieli, Bruckner, Karel Husa, and J.S. Bach.
Live in Elizabeth Hall, Tuesday, November 3, 7:30 p.m.—The Fall recital of the Stetson University Guitar Ensemble,
directed by Stephen Robinson, will feature various combinations of guitars, bass, flute, and percussion, in
performances of works by J.S. Bach, Luis Bonfa, Johann Kasper Mertz, and Francisco Molino. Also on the program
will be Steve's arrangements for guitar orchestra of the works of Simon and Garfunkel and a medley of famous
tangos. The recital will also be presented in Daytona Beach on Friday, October 30, at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of
