REMINDER-The Faculty Women's Caucus Fall Term social event will be dinner together today Friday, October 2,
at 5:30 p.m. at Main Street Grill. If you want to put any issues on the agenda, please email or call Finnegan

TIME WARNER COMMUNICATIONS EXCELLENCE IN SPORTS PROGRAM will once again be sponsoring several
FREE athletic clinics. We will begin our season, Saturday, October 3, with volleyball, featuring instruction from
Hatter coaches and athletes. The clinic will be held at the Edmunds Center from 9:00 a.m. - noon. The following
weekend, October 10, will be a soccer clinic also from 9:00 a.m. - noon at the Stetson soccer field. All school
age children (ages 5 through 17) are invited to attend, and will receive a FREE T-shirt, and a chance to win prizes.
All the families and friends of faculty and staff are encouraged to attend. Please bring appropriate gear if you
would like to, to the clinic. If you have any questions please call ext. 8100. See you there!

The October Faculty Senate meeting will be Monday, October 5, in the Faculty Lounge of the Carlton Union
Building. Dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m. with the meeting immediately following at 6:45 p.m.

REMINDER-SUMMER GRANT WORKSHOP-Tuesday, October 6, 4:30 p.m., John E. Johns Room (315 Elizabeth
Hall). Application packets for full- or part-time Summer Grants are available in the Office of Academic Affairs.

The Women and Gender Studies Program is pleased to announce the continuation of its Roundtable Series. Our
fall schedule kicks off on Friday, October 9, at 12:00 noon in 319E. Rebecca Mills, a 1998 SURE grant recipient,
will be presenting her research on "Immigration Woes of Mexican-American Farmworkers: The Effect of Legal
Status and Gender on Health and Safety Issues." Rebecca worked with the Mexican-American community of
Pierson. Her research identifies the various health and safety issues common to this community, reveals the
effects that immigrant status and gender have on the farmworkers' ability/desire to fight the discrimination and
hardships they face in the workplace, and offers some ideas for action and change. Please join us for this Arts
& Sciences Cultural Event. Light refreshments will be served.

SLIDE LECTURE/GALLERY TALK BY BETTY PRESS. Photographer Betty Press, whose works are on display
currently in the Duncan Gallery of Art (through October 30), will give a lecture in the gallery from 12:00 - 12:45
p.m., Friday, October 9. Ms. Press' works have been published in internationally recognized journals such as U.S.
News and World Report, the New York Times, and Newsweek, among others. Lecture is free and open to the
public. Students who sign in at the event will receive Arts & Sciences cultural credit. Next gallery lecture:
