UNIVERSITY FACULTY MEETING-today, Friday, October 3--Stetson Room, noon. A light lunch will be served
beginning at 11:45 p.m. The agenda has been posted on faculty-l as well as hard copies mailed. Additional copies

The Faculty Senate will meet this Monday, October 6, in the Faculty Lounge of the Carlton Union Building. The
meeting will begin at 6:45 p.m. and will be preceded by dinner at 6:00 p.m. in the Private Dining Room. All faculty
are welcome. Please notify Brian Doherty (ext. 8958) if you plan to attend the dinner. Lloyd Linney has been
elected and agreed to serve as adjunct faculty representative to the Faculty Senate.

—The High School Honors Choral Clinic will be held on our campus today and tomorrow. Please be friendly to the
over 600 high school students and their teachers who will be participating in this event. See last week's Newsletter
for details.
Live in Downtown DeLand, Wednesday, October 8, 12:20 p.m.— The second in The 12:20 MainStreet Concert
Series will be a 25-minute performance by the Stetson Flute Choir under the direction of Jean West. Our ten
flutists will play at the Rivertown Antique Mall, 114 S. Woodland Boulevard. If you are in the downtown area next
Wednesday, please walk through the mall for a few minutes between 12:20 and 12:45 . . . and take a friend.
Live in Elizabeth Hall, Thursday, October 9, 7:30 p.m.—The University Orchestra, directed by Darryl One, will
feature faculty cellist David Bjella in a performance of Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme. Both David
and Darryl have very busy performing schedules. David played the Brahms Double Concerto last year with the
Orlando Philharmonic and will play it again this season with his brother with the Central Wisconsin Symphony. He
will play in Augusta and at Georgia State University as part of the Inman Piano Trio, and he spends his summers
as a member of the Cincinnati Symphony. Last season, Darryl conducted the Tokyo Philharmonic and Opera
Memphis, and this summer he conducted the Houston Symphony, at Wolf Trap in Virginia, and at the Ravinia
Festival in Chicago. This season he is conducting the Jacksonville and Orlando orchestras. The University Orchestra
will open their program with Tchaikovsky's Polonaise from "Eugene Onegin" and will close with Brahms' Symphony
No. 4. Please note that this concert is on Thursday evening.
The Orchestra Concert will be the first event of the third annual Stetson String Institute, coordinated by cellist
David Bjella. There will be 20+ high school string players visiting our campus for the 2-1/2 day Institute. The
Institute will present its final concert in Elizabeth Hall at 4:30 on Saturday afternoon, October 11.
