REMINDER-The Women and Gender Studies Program is pleased to announce the continuation of its Roundtable
Series. Our fall schedule kicks off today Friday, October 9, at 12:00 noon in 319E. Rebecca Mills, a 1998 SURE
grant recipient, will be presenting her research on "Immigration Woes of Mexican-American Farmworkers: The
Effect of Legal Status and Gender on Health and Safety Issues." Rebecca worked with the Mexican-American
community of Pierson. Her research identifies the various health and safety issues common to this community,
reveals the effects that immigrant status and gender have on the farmworkers' ability/desire to fight the
discrimination and hardships they face in the workplace, and offers some ideas for action and change. Please join
us for this Arts & Sciences Cultural Event. Light refreshments will be served.

Live in Elizabeth Hall, Friday, October 16, 7:30 p.m.—The Tres Vientos Friends concert will include woodwind trio
as well as quintet literature. The Trio, with Jean West, flute, Ann Adams, oboe, and Lynn Cholka, clarinet, will play
works by Alvin Etler, Josef Doppelbauer, Arcangelo Corelli, and Alfred Loeffler—an arrangement of seven
Appalachian melodies. Ashley Heintzen, bassoon, and William Rogan, horn, will join the trio for two quintets by
Franz Danzi and by Carl Nielsen. Tres Vientos will give a concert at the Daytona Beach Museum on Saturday,
October 17, at 7:30 p.m.
Live in Elizabeth Hall, Saturday, October 17, 7:30 p.m.—The Navy Commodores, the U.S. Navy's premier jazz
ensemble, includes 18 of the Navy's top jazz and big band musicians. The chart styles range from the authentic
sounds of the swing era and bebop to contemporary high-energy. The Commodores have performed at the Detroit
Montreux Jazz Festival and the famed Newport Jazz Festival and have toured Central and South America, Europe,
and the U.S. They present clinics at high schools and colleges and regularly perform at conventions of the
International Association of Jazz Educators, International Trumpet Guild, and the Mid-West International Band and
Orchestra Clinic. The band was featured on the Department of Interior's 1993 Memorial Day Radio Program" Flying
Home: A Commemoration of the Swing Music of World War II." Their recordings include "Some Bop," "Full Swing
Ahead," and the 1996 compact disc, "Here and Now." (For free tickets, please send or deliver SASE to School
