GILLESPIE MUSEUM CELEBRATION. You are invited to the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the Gillespie Museum
of Minerals at Stetson University, on Saturday, November 21, (9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.), and Sunday, November 22,
(10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.). The Museum will host a special display of the history of the Gillespie Collection,
demonstrations of the lapidary arts and flint knapping, and wildlife exhibits. Specimens from the Gillespie's special
collections-seldom seen-will also be on display. Free to the Stetson community with one's ID card.

REMINDER--THE PHYSICS OF STAR TREK. The Physics Department will be welcoming to campus Dr. Lawrence
Krauss best selling author and chair of the Physics Department at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Krauss,
an exceptional speaker, will be giving a public lecture titled, "The Physics of Star Trek" on Tuesday, November 24,
at 7:00 p.m. in the Stetson Room of the Carlton Union Building. The lecture is free and open to the public and
qualifies as an Arts and Sciences cultural events requirement. Following the lecture, the Society of Physics
Students will be sponsoring a reception for members of the Stetson community to meet Dr. Krauss. The reception
will be held in the Faculty Lounge of the Carlton Union Building. Dr. Krauss will be on campus on Tuesday,
November 24, and Wednesday, November 25, and in addition to his public lecture he will be touring the Physics
Department, sitting in classes, and discussing post-graduate opportunities with Physics majors. Dr. Krauss' visit
to campus is sponsored by the Artists and Lecturers Series. From: Laura Glander
BOOK DISCUSSION. The American Studies Department and the Hollis Leadership Development Committee will
be sponsoring a book discussion on Monday, November 30, at 2:30 p.m. in 322 Elizabeth Hall.
Michael Haridopolos and Amy Hendricks wrote Ten Big Issues Facing Our Generation (Harcourt, 1998) as a text
for "Generation X" students, to inform them about large political and cultural issues. Haridopolos, a 1992 graduate
of Stetson, is now a Ph.D. candidate in history at the University of Arkansas. He has taught history at Brevard
Community College; and Hendricks, who teaches political science at Brevard, is the Chair of the Liberal Arts
Department.
The book is free to any members of the Stetson community who would like to join the discussion. It is available
in the American Studies office, 218 Sampson. Contact Shirley Ferguson, ext. 7530, with questions. Please
announce the discussion in classes and to advisees. This event will satisfy cultural credit requirements.
