REMINDER-POETRY READING. Please invite your students to attend a poetry reading by Rachel Hadas on
Tuesday, October 28, at 8:00 p.m. in the Duncan Gallery in Sampson Hall. The reading is sponsored by the Artists
and Lecturers Committee and the Sullivan Endowment for Writing, and will earn cultural events credit.

INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM-October 30-31, 1997. This year's International Symposium at Stetson will be
devoted to "NATO and Russia's Future." One of the most controversial issues in the post-Cold War era is the
proposed expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization into countries that had previously been members of
the Soviet-dominated security alliance, the Warsaw Pact. A move condemned by Russian politicians of all parties
and ideologies, the expansion of NATO into Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and beyond has generated heated
debate among policy-makers and scholars in the West. The Stetson International Symposium will join this debate
through a series of lectures and discussions presented by leading experts from Russia and the United States.
