The Faculty Senate will be holding a reception/orientation for all new faculty members this Monday, September
15, at 5:30 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge (first floor, Carlton Union Building). All new faculty are invited to attend
and learn about what Stetson has to offer. Refreshments will be served.

REMINDER-FACULTY: Please advise your students that the deadline for Study Abroad Programs participation for
the Spring Semester of the Academic Year 1997-98 is October 1, 1997. The Office of International Exchange and
Off-Campus Programs is located in the International House located at 207 1/2 Michigan Avenue.

Live in Elizabeth Hall, Friday, September 12, 7:30 p.m.-The Faculty Chamber Recital will feature five Music School
faculty performing with oboist Ann Adams in a recital of chamber works by composers Poulenc, Honegger, Hoist,
Jehan Alain, and Peter Schickele (a serious composer, but perhaps better known as PDQ Bach). Ann will be joined
by David Bjella, cello; Lynn Cholka, clarinet; Ashley Heintzen, bassoon; Jean West, flute; and Kayla Liechty, piano.
These 20th-century chamber works represent a wide variety of styles, ranging from the beautiful sonorities of
Poulenc to the light jazz style of Schickele's "Dream Dances" for Flute, Oboe, and Cello.
Live in Elizabeth Hall, Friday, September 19, 7:30 p.m.-Pianist Maria Rapp, visiting professor from the
Padagogische Hochschule Freiburg, will perform sonatas by J.C. Bach and Beethoven and two Schubert
impromptus. All three composers were writing in the Classical period, and Maria has studied these pieces at the
Scholar Cantorum in Basel, Switzerland, on the original, historic instruments for which the works were composed.
Maria is exchanging positions with Michael Rickman this semester. From: Jan Kindred
NATURALIZATION CEREMONY AT STETSON. The Department of Political Science is pleased to host the
Citizenship Oath Ceremony for 250 new American citizens on Wednesday, September 17, at 1:00 p.m. in the
Elizabeth Hall Auditorium. Appropriately, this is the date of the celebration of Citizenship Day nationwide. The
Stetson ROTC unit will Present the Colors; a student brass ensemble will play patriotic tunes; Christopher Glenn,
a student organist will play patriotic music before the ceremony begins; Routa Kroumovich and Alvaro Gomez,
themselves new citizens, will play pieces by Russian and American composers; Jane Christeson, voice professor
and mezzo-soprano, will sing the National Anthem; and President Lee will deliver the keynote address. Stetson
faculty and staff are invited to attend this exciting program which marks a significant new partnership of Stetson
University with the Immigration and Naturalization Service of the U.S. Department of Justice.
