SECOND WGS/COLLEGIAL SEMINAR: Dr. Ranjini Thaver, Assistant Professor of Economics, will present her
research on "Housework and GDP: A Case for Non-Inclusion" on Thursday, October 2, 1997, at 4:00 p.m., in
room 309, Elizabeth Hall. The objective of this research is to demonstrate that GDP as a measure of a nation's
welfare is seriously flawed. Therefore an endeavor to resolve the housework puzzle, by including it in this measure
will prove to be double jeopardy. In addition, inclusion will further perpetuate humans as two dimensional
'economic beings,' rather than the complex life forms that we perceive ourselves to be. The seminar is open to

—Stetson's annual High School Honors Choral Clinic will be held on our campus on Friday and Saturday, October
3-4. There will be approximately 50 schools represented, with more than 600 students and their teachers
attending. The participants will be treated to a concert on Friday night featuring the newly formed faculty quintet,
The Stetson Brass, as well as Stetson Choirs and Opera Workshop. The guest ensemble will be Titusville High
School Concert Chorus, conducted by Thomas P. Davis. Guest conductors for the two honors choirs will be Simon
Carrington from the University of Kansas and Karyl Carlson from Central Washington State University. Carrington
is founder of the world-famous King Singers and was a member of this ensemble for 25 years before taking the
position in Kansas. The Honors Choirs will present the Saturday evening concert held at the First Baptist Church.
You may not be able to get into the crowded concert halls; but if you see a student wandering around campus,
please be friendly. Many of these students are looking forward to earning degrees within and outside of music, and
we'd like them to consider Stetson. From: Jan Kindred
FACULTY EXCHANGES. This past summer, Doug Lee and Bill Nylen travelled to Granada, Spain, to sign a faculty
exchange agreement with the University of Granada. This program parallels the agreement we have with the
Padagogische Hochschule in Freiburg, Germany. Short (one month) and long-term (semester or academic year)
exchanges are now possible at both. The intent of the one month exchange is to explore and open up possibilities
for long term exchanges. Faculty making application should have a working knowledge of German or Spanish or
be engaged in language study. Additional information and applications are available from the Office of International
