PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP. A reminder that the Professional Development Committee will hold
a workshop on Summer Grant and Sabbatical Leave Applications on Monday, September 29, 4:00 p.m. in the
Faculty Lounge of the Carlton Union Building. Application forms are available in the Office of Academic Affairs
and may be picked up during office hours, or you may e-mail Maggie ([email protected]) and request
a copy. Forms will also be available at the workshop. Guidelines for Sabbatical Leave Applications were published

Live in Elizabeth Hall, Friday, September 19, 7:30 p.m.--Pianist Maria Rapp, visiting professor from the
Padagogische Hochschule Freiburg. See last week's edition of The Newsletter for details.
Live in Elizabeth Hall, Friday, September 26, 7:30 p.m.-Lynn Cholka and Kayla Liechty will perform a recital of
music from the 19th- and early 20th-century literature for clarinet and piano. The recital includes pieces that are
on the Florida Band Association solo and ensemble list and should be of interest to high school students who will
be preparing these works. One of the highlights will be the Sonato for Clarinet and Piano by Paul Hindemith. Lynn
was recently named the only artist/clinician in Florida for the LeBlanc Corporation, one of the largest instrument
manufacturers in the world. She joins such artists as the principal clarinetist with the Met Opera Orchestra, the
principal clarinetist with the Chicago Symphony, and jazz artist Eddy Daniels. She was chosen because of both
playing and teaching abilities.
Stetson's Center for the Study of Aging has received a grant of $5,000 from the Bert Fish Foundation to support
further development of the Community Health Education Program. Students from the Health Psychology Seminar
will be working with volunteers from local religious congregations and retirement communities on two projects.
The first is a program designed to increase the number of older adults receiving annual flu vaccinations. The
second program will focus on methods for improving the detection and treatment of depression in the elderly.
