PURPOSE —
This rather diminutive excuse for a newspaper will be
distributed each Thursday from
now on, students, and if you
don't look too hard at its size
or make-up, you may find that
it will prove to be of immense
value in disseminating infor -
mation throughout the school
during the summer session.
Started two years ago, Dean
Charles G. Smith has requested
that the erstwhile nev/s sheet
be continued. If students or
faculty members have any bits
of philosophy or information
which you wish included, just
bring, send, or telephone it in
to the Publicity Office in Elizabeth Hall. We enjoy getting it
together, and if you enjoy reading it, then our efforst are repaid a thousandfold.
INVITATION —
"Please put a note in your
News Letter for me", requested
Mrs. W. S. Allen, wife of the
president, in giving us our
first contribution, "and tell
every student, every member of
the faculty, and every administrative officer that President
Allen and I sincerely hope that
all of them will be present at
the reception Thursday evening."
The President's Reception
will be held Thursday* which is
today if you are reading this
punctually, in Chaudoin Hall,
from seven-thirty to eight -
thirty o'clock p.m. It is the
first of Dean Smith's Twilight
Hours, and President and Mrs.
Allen, Dean and Dr. Smith, and
Dr. and Mrs. Duckwitz will form
the receiving line. Dean Lola
SUMMERETTE —
Both strange and familiar
faces were seen Monday as the
line banked up in front of
the registrar's table. It
was good to see so many students who have returned to
Stetson after an absence.
Ralph Russell was seen signing up for the C.P.T.P., aviation course, and Hal Hunter,
active in dramatics last semester, joined the summer scholars.

Professor H. S. Winters,
history prof, has one of the
highest of the summer school
enrollments in any class.
The class is Florida History.
Conservation of Natural Resources, a course taught by
Dr. C. B. Vance, is running
a close second, and Dr. Cornelia Smith, biology professor, is one of the professors
with a large enrollment.

Professor Winters started
off his clas Tuesday morning in
top form. One of his students
asked him where he had been.The
late comer said that he had just
put up the flag. Since the European crisis had just, been under
discussion, he got a laugh out
of the students when he queried,
"A white flag?"
The publicity office plans to
have a news bulletin board across
from the regular board in Eliza-

B. McCollough will introduce
the guests, and Mrs. Sue Burns
will preside at the punch bowl,
assisted by a corps of capable
faculty members. Music will be
provided by a group of Dr. Dudte-
wita' trained artists.
