Forget exams and hurry to
DEAN SMITH'S WATERMELON PARTY
The last Twilight Hour of
the summer session as program-
med by Dean Smith will get under way tonight (Thurs., July
18) in the campus Commons. Dietitian Batson, in charge of
watermelon research, reported
yesterday that 70 giant-size
Tom Watson's are gritting their
teeth against the expected
thrusts of the knives to be
held by Cutters Conn, Stover,
and LaFuze, official appointees
of the Dean. And that isn't -
all, says the Dean. There are
two real movies awaiting those
who attend, which, incidentally,
includes everyone in or connected with Stetson. The films v/ill
be brief, but are Paramount releases obtained through J. E.
Burgert, Gainesville, and "are
definitely humorous and educational". There is no charge
for admittance, begins at 7:30
sharp, will be over early so
students can return to their
cramming before Fridayls exams,
so come early to avoid the rush
and don't swallow seeds.
Miss Batson's trained
waiters, Jack Whitney, Fred
Foltz, and Bill Brennan, will
wait on the melon eaters, but
will not wait too long to wait
on themselves.
MASTERY—
According to a statement
early this week from the office
of the Dean, only two graduate
workers are definitely slated
to obtain their Master of Arts •
degrees at the August 7 Commencement exercises. Those who
have shown some certainty about
the completion of their theses
and acceptance by the Graduate
Council are Mrs. Virginia Giffin

REGISTRATION FOR 2ND SESSION
TO BE HELD MONDAY
No Late Registrations,
Registrar Says
Registration for the sec-
ong period of the Stetson sum-
er session will be held Monday
morning, according to Miss Olga
Bowen, registrar. Professors
and advisors v/ill be at their
desks in the LIBRARY, and hours
for enrollment will be from
nine to ten-thirty. Other .
facts gleaned from the registrar's report are that students
will be permitted to take only
one course: that classes will
meet six days a week, three
hours per day, from 8 to 9:30
a.m., and from 10 to 12: that
the session vi 11 last for 15
days until August 7, the time
for the first Commencement:
that the intersession will begin the day after and run until
the second summer commencement
on August 23: AND that no late
registrations will be accepted
for the session beginning Monday.
Approximately 80 persons
are expected to enroll for the
second term in the College of
Liberal Arts and probably a
dozen more in the College of Law.
The Stetson lawyers have been
studying at the University of
Florida Law School for the past
six weeks.
SUMMERETTES--
CHECK UP, BOOKWORMS—Prof.
Robert Severance, librarian, asks
that all Stetson library books
be returned to that spot by Friday of this week at the latest.
In fact, he does more than ask:
he states that it is a ruling.
