STETSON WEEKLY NUS LETTER

Hello, Stetsonites:
Do you suppose we can divert your attention from thoughts of Fourth
of July picnics, swims, fishing expeditions, and other forms of celebration
long enough to tell you about what's going on these days at Stetson? Anyway,
we'll try.
We think the double holiday this weekend is coming at just the right
time to give everyone a much-needed rest after three weeks of hard work — and
that includes faculty and staff members as well as students. Everyone seems in
complete agreement, so we won't press the point.

Right now we have a most pleasant evening's entertainment ahead of us.
A program of varied musical selections has been planned for this evening at
7:30 in the University auditorium. Two talented Stetson music students, Harry
Parker, trombonist, and H. Graham Selick, flutist, will play several solos, accompanied by Miss Elizabeth Nicholson. Dr. W. E. Duckwitz, head of the school
of music, will give a talk on music.
This program will be- the second of the Thursday "twilight hour" entertainments. Professor Harold M« Giffin, tenor, whose scheduled concert last
week had to be postponed, is still suffering from a throat ailment and is unable
to sing. We are hoping he will be well enough to sing for us before the summer
session is over.

Miss Lola 3. McCollough, dean of women, and Miss Etter Turner, her
assistant, were hostesses at an informal tea yesterday in Chaudoin parlors for
the women students of the summer session and faculty members and their wives.
Dr. Cornelia Smith helped receive the guests* Mrs. Sue Burns, head of the
demonstration school, and Miss Helen Louise Batson, university dietitian, poured.
Some of the girls from the winter term who are attending summer school assisted
with serving and entertaining the guests.

On Tuesday night, July 5th, the first weekly Vesper Service for the
summer session will be held in the Chapel from 6:45 to 7:15* T^e Vesper Service
is non-denominational and is dedicated to quiet reverence and divine worship.
Its purpose is to strengthen the spiritual life of the student body.

ATTENTION GRADUATE STUDENTS*. Dean Charles G. Smith, chairman of the
graduate council, would like to call the attention of all candidates for
master's degrees in August to the fact that by July 22nd all theses must be
completed and the final forms ready for binding.
