Live in Elizabeth Hall, Friday, October 11, 7:30 p.m.--Orchestra Concert with conductor Darryl One and guitarist
Stephen Robinson. See last week's edition of The Newsletter for program details. This concert will be one of the
events we offer participants of the second annual Stetson String Institute, coordinated by cellist David Bjella.
There will be 35 or so high school string players visiting our campus for the 2 two-day Institute.
Live in Elizabeth Hall, Tuesday, October 15, 7:30 p.m.--Flutist Jean West and pianist Michael Rickman will play
an all 20th-century recital for flute and piano by French and American composers. Mezzo-soprano Jane Christeson
will join Jean in a performance of three Irish folk tunes set for voice and flute by American composer John
Corigliano. The final work of the concert is a sonata by Paul Basler of the University of Florida, written as a
memorial to a friend who died of an AIDS-related illness.
Live in Elizabeth Hall, Friday, October 18, 7:30 p.m.--The Symphonic Wind Ensemble conducted by Bobby Adams
will perform works by John Adams, Gustav Hoist, Morton Gould, Johannes Brahms, and Richard Strauss. Soprano
Lloyd Linney will sing the Four Last Songs of R. Strauss, a transcription of the famous work for soprano and
orchestra.
Stetson's orchestra and wind ensemble will share the stage in a performance in Bunnell (Flagler Auditorium) on
Saturday, October 12, at 8:00 p.m. Tickets for the Bunnell concert are $12. Hear the two groups tonight
(October 11) and next Friday night for free!

Reminder-Today, Friday, October 11, former Navy officer Keith Meinhold will be on campus, sponsored by
Students Transcending Homophobia. Meinhold, after being discharged from the Navy when he "came out" on
national television, was the first male armed forces member to be reinstated by Supreme Court order in 1995.
There will be a buffet dinner for Meinhold on Friday at 5:00 p.m., in the Private Dining Room. There will be 20
dinners provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Following the dinner, Meinhold will be speaking at Embry
Riddle University. Carpooling will be arranged at the dinner. Please announce to your students.
