LIVE in Elizabeth Hall, Saturday, September 9, 7:30 p.m.-Saxophonist James Bishop and pianist Michael Rickman
will perform works of the 20th century this Saturday night in Elizabeth Hall. The saxophone is a hybrid instrument
invented by Adolphe Sax around 1840. Jim will tall you it combines the best qualities of the clarinet, the oboe,
and brass instruments. There is a whole family of saxophones, but Jim will play the alto saxophone, the preferred

FACULTY SENATE RECEPTION FOR NEW FACULTY: Faculty Senate reception for new faculty and adjuncts will
be held on Monday, September 11, 1995, at 7:00 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge of the Carlton Union Building.
Refreshments will be served.
The Faculty Senate will meet Monday, October 2. Dinner will be at 6:00 p.m. in the Private Dining Room of the
Carlton Union Building. The meeting will follow at 6:45 in the Faculty Lounge. Dinner and the meeting are open
to all faculty. Anyone wishing to make a reservation for the dinner should call Jeff Horn, ext. 7578 (cost $4.50).

UNIVERSITY ADVISOR ON DIVERSITY ISSUES
I am pleased to announce that Dr. Leonard Nance has agreed to serve as University Advisor on Diversity Issues.
In this capacity he will attend PITF meetings and other meetings as requested, will co-chair the Multicultural
Education Institute, and will work with others on campus to help assure that we are a community that embraces
diversity as an important ingredient of academic excellence. From: Gene Lubot, Provost
PLANNING TO HAVE YOUR STUDENTS USE VIDEO? If you expect to assign (or just encourage) any of your
classes to utilize video production this semester, please have them contact the Instructional Media Center three
to four weeks in advance of their presentation. Better yet, allow me 15 minutes to speak to them about what is
required in simple video production and other presentation forms. This will reduce some student frustration.
