REMINDER--The Cultural Studies Reading Group will meet today, Friday, October 7, at 4:30 p.m. at the home of
Stephanie Athey (for address and directions call ext. 7718 or 7720). We will be discussing sections of Frantz
Fanon's The Wretched of the Earth: Preface and "Concerning Violence," pp. 1 -95 and in Black Skin, White Masks:
"Introduction," pp. 7-14 and "The Fact of Blackness," pp. 109-140. Both texts are currently on reserve at the

REMINDER-The Faculty Senate will meet at 6:45 p.m., Monday, October 10, in the Faculty Lounge of the Carlton
Union Building. Faculty wishing to attend, may do so. If you want to have dinner ($5) at 6:00 p.m. in the Private
Dining Room, please make a reservation with Susan Wilson at ext. 7526. Doug Lee, Gene Lubot, and Ann Graham

REMINDER-PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP. A Grants and Information Workshop led by Mary Ann
Lederhaus will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge. The purpose of the
workshop is to review procedures and criteria for applying for summer grants and sabbaticals. Summer Grant
applications are available in the Office of the Provost.

REMINDER-Dale Carnegie is offering an Executive Instructor Training Conference in the Lynn Business Center on
two consecutive weekends, November 11 through 13, and November 18 through 20. Up to 24 class openings
will be offered to Stetson Faculty at $100 per person. (Books and instructional materials will be included.) This
program is the heart of the Dale Carnegie course and includes 24 contact hours during the two weekends. For

ATTENTION FACULTY: Class rolls for the grade inventory have been distributed. Please record any "D" or "F"
grades that you have, verify by your signature that the rolls are correct, and return all rolls, even if you have no
D or F grades to report, to this office by 9:00 a.m., Monday, October 10. If you have any questions, or have not
received a grade roll for a class, please call ext. 7142. We appreciate your cooperation in this most important

HOST FAMILY (STILL) NEEDED: Mariana still needs a host family. She's eighteen years old, is from exotic Brazil
(though she has a U.S. passport-i.e. she'll be legal), works well with kids and really wants to come to DeLand for
English classes and our own unique version of North American culture. This will be the last announcement. So
