IT'S NOT TOO LATEI-WORKSHOP ON ORAL COMMUNICATION COMPETENCY: The Professional Development
Committee will hold a workshop on implementation and evaluation of oral communication competency on
Wednesday. November 8. at 4:00 p.m. in the Private Dining Room of the Carlton Union Building. The workshop
will be followed by dinner and informal discussion at 6:00 p.m. The program will be presented by Professors
Michael McFarland and Susan Wilson of the Communication Studies Department. For reservations, please call

REMINDER-WGS TALKFEST: On Thursday, November 9, the Women & Gender Studies Program will show JJ_g
Smell of Burning Ants, a documentary video on gender, male socialization, and boyhood violence. This video has
won 18 awards and has been called a "visually compelling and thought-provoking portrait of the cultural and
psychological transmission of male identity in young boys." Participants will meet at 4:30 p.m. in the Private
Dining Room. We'll watch the video, discuss it, and then have dinner (courtesy of Provost's Office). All members
of the university community are welcome, but space is limited. Those interested in participating should call Norma

Live in Elizabeth Hall. November 2-4--The Stetson University School of Music will host the Society of Composers
1995 Southeastern Region Annual Meeting November 2-4. This convention will include six concerts presenting
exciting new music by 48 living composers. Most of the composers will be on campus for the performances of
their works. The featured guest composer is Karel Husa, an internationally known, Pulitzer Prize winning
Czechoslovakian composer who has recently retired to Ponce Inlet from Cornell University. Mr. Husa's Frammenti
for Oroan will be performed on Friday night's concert by Susan Klotzbach, and on Saturday night his Concerto for
Alto Saxophone and Concert Band will be performed by Stetson saxophonist James Bishop with Bobby Adams
conducting the Stetson Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Many other Stetson music faculty will perform on concerts
which are scheduled Friday at 3:00 p.m., Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 11:00 a.m., Saturday at 3:00 p.m., and
Saturday 7:30 p.m. All concerts are in Elizabeth Hall. You can also experience the Stetson version of a sidewalk
cafe with 20th-century salon music on Friday evening from 9:30 to 11:00 in Presser 132. Refreshments will be
served. The conference has been organized by Stetson composer and teacher, Kari Juusela. Call ext. 8987 or
