ANNOUNCEMENTS
TIME CORRECTION-ARTS AND SCIENCES FACULTY: The next Arts and Sciences faculty meeting will be held
today, Friday, October 20, at 3:30 p.m. in room 5L (Library). On the agenda will be the Curriculum Committee's
report on "Culture" and "Ethics" courses. From: Amy Littlefield
UNIVERSITY FACULTY MEETING-MONDAY. OCTOBER 23, 4:00 p.m., RINKER AUDITORIUM-Refreshments will
be served. The motion to raise quorum at Faculty Meetings will be revisited and voted upon. The following motion
will be introduced: "A quorum shall consist of 40% of the full-time faculty plus one." Since this is a change in
the by-laws, it will require a positive vote by two-thirds of those present. We will also have an open discussion
of 1996-97 calendar options (see models attached elsewhere), with a motion to be brought to the November

Novelist J. Joaquin Fraxedes, author of The Lonely Crossing of Juan Cabrera, will meet with literature students
to discuss his writing on Monday, October 23, at 6:15 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge of the Carlton Union Building.
Any students or faculty who are familiar with his work and would like to meet the author are welcome to join our

Live in Elizabeth Hall, October 20, 7:30 p.m. The Stetson Symphonic Wind Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Bobby
Adams, will feature Stetson saxophonist James Bishop performing Karei Husa's "Concerto for Alto Saxophone and
Concert Band." Karel Husa is an internationally known Czechoslovakian composer who has recently retired to
Ponce Inlet from Cornell University. He won the 1969 Pulitzer Prize in composition. Also on the program are
works by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Howard Hanson, Arnold Schoenberg, Johann Strauss, and John Philip Sousa.
The 92-member Stetson Symphonic Wind Ensemble has been invited to perform this year at the southern
Conference of the College Band Directors Association in Biloxi, Mississippi, and the Music Educators National
Conference in Kansas City.
Live in Elizabeth Hall, October 24, 7:30 p.m. Dr. Alvaro Gomez will conduct the Stetson Chamber Orchestra in
an arrangement of Johannes Brahms' Hungarian Dances originally written for piano four-hands. The Chamber
Orchestra will also play works of Corelli, C.P.E. Bach, and Grieg. From: Jan Kindred
ART DEPARTMENT PRESENTS SLIDE LECTURE-today. Friday, October 20, 1:30 p.m.. Room 5L, duPont Ball
Library. Artist Raymond Olivero, who is currently exhibiting in Duncan Gallery, will present slides of his work.
Olivero refers to his work as an "aesthetic/decorative" experience. He draws on creation mythologies of various
cultural traditions as both subject, and as vehicle for a multi-layered presentation of the human experience.
