TROPICAL STORM "GORDON." As you know, we decided to keep the University open during Tropical Storm
Gordon because local conditions did not seem to warrant closing. However, many students and faculty trying to
get to the University experienced serious weather related difficulties beyond their control. Many students called
my office and other offices, and we told them that they should use good judgment and not try to come to campus
if they were concerned about their safety. The Deans and I request that faculty be understanding toward students
who could not attend classes because of concerns for their personal safety or because of other weather related
circumstances beyond their control. Please give them the opportunity to make up the work they missed so that
they will not suffer any academic penalty. Thank you. From: Gene Lubot, Provost
OPEN REGISTRATION FOR WINTER TERM AND SPRING SEMESTER. Faculty advisers are reminded that early
registration for the Winter Term and Spring Semester will continue from November 18 until the end of the
semester. If you have advisees who have not completed their registration, they should fill out a new course
request card, have it signed by you, and then they should turn it in at the Registrar's Office. Completing
registration now will avoid having to do it over again in January. From: Al Wehrle

Program is at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. November 21. in Room 5L. The next meeting after that will be Monday,

DEPARTMENTAL NAME CHANGE. With the approval of Dean Maris and Provost Lubot, the name of the
Department of Religion has been changed to the Department of Religious Studies. The name change brings the
department in line with the current pattern in the profession. This change is effective immediately. Beginning with
