ANNOUNCEMENTS
On October 19, Dr. Langdon Gilkey, Shailer Matthews Professor of Theology Emeritus, University of Chicago
Divinity School, will be giving a lecture titled "Creationist Controversy." The scheduled time is 7:30 p.m. in the
Elizabeth Hall Auditorium. Dr. Langdon Gilkey will also be the guest speaker for the Encounter program on
Wednesday, October 20, at 10:00 a.m. The title for this lecture will be "Christian Faith and The Universe of
Modern Science." Both lectures will be followed by a question-and-answer period. From Clyde Fant
The Community School of Music will present its first performance of the year Percussion!, on Friday, October 15,
at 10:00 a.m. in Presser Hall, 132. The presentation is sponsored by the Young Patrons of Music Program, the
newest addition to the Community School of Music, and will feature Stetson's Percussion Ensemble directed by
Carl Rendek, Adjunct Professor of Music. Several pieces will be performed and this first presentation will be free
and open to the public as an introduction to the Young Patrons of Music Program. For further information call

UNIVERSITY FACULTY MEETING~10:00 a.m. Rinker Auditorium, Davis Hall. On the agenda is an update on the
two-semester calendar, the search for the Vice President of Business and Finance, a Senate report from Leonard

The Artists and Lecturers Committee resumes its film series next WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 20, at 7:00 p.m. in
Room 5L. First in the CLASSICS OF INTERNATIONAL CINEMA will be Rules of the Game, the renowned Jean
Renoir's satirical anatomy of social values. If you've seen this film, here's another chance to view it. If you've

FAMILY WEEKEND. This is a reminder that October 22-24, 1993, is Family Weekend. Faculty are asked to help
make our guests feel welcome, and they are particularly invited to the President's reception on Saturday, October
23, from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at the President's home, and to the President's Address on the same day at
10:15 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. in Elizabeth Hall Chapel. Complimentary tickets for lunch from 11:00 - 1:00 p.m., will

The Professional Development Committee and the Women and Gender Studies Program are sponsoring a Workshop
on Evaluating Students: How is it Political: This workshop, which will explore the politics involved in various
methods of evaluating student performance, will be held in the Private Dining Room of the Carlton Union Building
at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 4. Dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m. All faculty are invited to sign up by
calling Norma Dean in the English Office (ext. 7720) by Thursday, October 28. We can accommodate only 25
participants, so call now to reserve your spot. Several essays that will be used to generate discussion will be sent
