ANNOUNCEMENTS
"THE FUTURE OF THE HUMAN POPULATION: WHAT DO WE KNOW AND HOW DO WE KNOW IT?" is the topic
of the public lecture to be given at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 22. in the Stetson Room, by this year's Phi
Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar, Dr. Joel Cohen. Dr. Cohen is professor of populations and head of the Laboratory
of Populations at Rockefeller University. You are invited to attend and please encourage your students to take
advantage of this opportunity to hear a renowned biologist-ecologist-demographer-epidemiologist.

UNIVERSITY FACULTY MEETING-Monday. October 26, 10:00 - 10:50 a.m., Rinker Auditorium, Davis Hall.
Representatives of the Faculty Senate will make brief reports on several of the issues being discussed in the
Senate. In addition, there will be opportunity for comments on Doug Lee's statement on "Phase II Agenda For
the Year 2000 Plan" distributed with The Newsletter of September 18, and on the mission-related documents
distributed with The Newsletter of September 26. Substantive discussion of the Winter Term issue will take
place at the next meeting of the University Faculty after the Senate meeting of November 9.

VISIT OF FORMER PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER. Stetson faculty, staff, and students have picked up over 3,500
tickets to the lecture by former President Jimmy Carter. However, over 2,300 people who sent in their self-
addressed, stamped envelope were sent notices that there were no more tickets. Therefore, if you do have
tickets and cannot use them, please turn them in to Tessa Immich before 4:30 p.m. Monday the 26th. After
that time you can turn them to Carol Snyder at the Edmunds Center. The schedule for Jimmy Carter's visit is
as follows:
Monday. October 26 Jimmy Carter arrives at the front gates of Stetson campus. All students, faculty, and staff
4:15 p.m. are encouraged to participate in an enthusiastic Stetson welcome.
4:30 p.m.
Question-and-answer session in Elizabeth Hall Chapel. Intimate dialogue with the "Stetson
Family." This is only for current Stetson students, faculty, and staff. Stetson I.D. is
necessary for entry.
5:45 p.m. Student Leader Reception for Jimmy Carter. Entry by invitation letter and ticket only.

8:00 p.m. Lecture in Edmunds Center. Entry by ticket only. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. This session
also will include a question-and-answer period.
