ANNOUNCEMENTS
REMINDER—October's Collegial Seminar sponsored by the College of Arts & Sciences will
be at noon today, Friday, October 11, in the Private Dining Room. The presenter will be
Dr. Roberta Favis, Assistant Professor and Chair of the Department of Art. The
presentation is the second in the loosely related fall series of seminars touching upon
academic approaches to multiculturalism and gender studies. Please refer to last week's
edition of The Newsletter for the Abstract.

REMINDER—A memorial service for Dr. C. Carter Colwell will be held in the Elizabeth Hall
Chapel, Wednesday, October 16, 1991, at 10:00 a.m.

The Faculty Senate will meet Monday, October 14, 1991, in the Private Dining Room of the
Carlton Union Building. Dinner will be at 6:00 p.m. with the meeting to follow at 6:45
p.m. The meeting is open to all faculty. Anyone wishing to make a reservation for the
dinner should call Jane Bradford, ext. 7175 or 7190 before noon on Monday.
The agenda will include a report on student life by Jim Beasley. There will be time set
aside for a discussion of faculty issues and concerns related to faculty salaries, the
budget process, and identification of information gaps. We encourage all faculty to
attend and voice their concerns. In order to make maximum use of this time, please notify
Cathie Coggins (ext. 7074) if you wish to speak. Senate committee reports will follow.

OPTICALLY SCANNED GRADE ROLLS. Faculty are reminded that the Registrar's Office has
converted to optically scanned grade rolls which will be used by the entire University
for the first time for the mid-term grade inventory. Because the forms must pass through
a machine to be read, thev cannot be folded, stapled, or mutilated in anv way. The interoffice mail envelope should not be used to return forms to this office. We also request
that you pay particular attention to the instructions on the form so that we may minimize

HATTER YEARBOOKS. Many faculty have not picked up their Hatter Yearbook. If any department
would like to still pick up copies, go to Darald Stubbs' office in the Carlton Union
