ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Stetson University Orchestra, under the direction of Thorn Sleeper, will present its
first concert of the season tonight, Friday, October 19, at 8:00 p.m. in Elizabeth Hall
Auditorium. The program will include Schubert's Overture to Rosamunde, Luke's Concerto
for Bassoon and Orchestra with soloist Kathryn Sleeper, and the famous Ravel orchestration
of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition. Kathryn is the new Adjunct Professor of
Bassoon in the School of Music. From: Professor Thorn Sleeper, School of Music
Janes River-Jones, Resident Conductor of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, will be giving
a series of conducting masterclasses Friday and Saturday, October 19 and 20, on the
Stetson campus. The final class will use the Stetson University Orchestra in Elizabeth
Hall from noon to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and is open to the public.

REMINDER—Professor Paul W. Hoag of Wichita State University will be on our campus for
public lectures and class visitation during the week of October 22. On Friday, October
26, at 8:00 p.m., he will speak on "High Technology Weaponry and the Modern World" in room
5L of the Library. He is also prepared to discuss "Military space policy," "National
security after the Cold War," and "Energy Policy." Should any faculty member desire to
have Dr. Hoag participate in a class on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, call Carol Dale,

We would like to remind all faculty to communicate with your students about the Job Fair
for junior and senior women and minorities in Miami on November 8-10. The Fair, sponsored
by the newspaper industry, will have actual interviews for actual jobs, as well as resume
preparation and interview skills workshops. Career opportunities will be available in
Human Resource/Personnel, Art, Information Systems, Finance/Accounting, Marketing
Research, and many others. The conference fee is $30 and the hotel fee during the
conference has been WAIVED, so the only cost to the students is $30. For further
information, contact your department chair or the Career Center. We would also like to
encourage all students and faculty to attend the pre-interview session for Chubb and Son,
an international insurance organization. It will be held on November 1 at 7:00 p.m. in
the DeLand Hall Board Room. We look forward to seeing you there!
