ANNOUNCEMENTS
PARENTS WEEKEND. A reminder to faculty about the reception on Saturday, October 22,
from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the garden of the President's home. All faculty are
encouraged to come. Faculty also are invited to the picnic lunch from 11:30 a.m. to
noon in the Forest of Arden. As you have heard from Karen Kurad and Kristine Smiley,
free luncheon tickets are available from room 201 in the Carlton Union Building.

FACULTY MEETING—Tuesday, October 25, 4:00-5:30 p.m. Davis Hall Auditorium. This
meeting will be an open forum for faculty on the work of the Task Force on Student
Life. As you may recall from an earlier edition of This Week (September 30), the Task
Force is divided into three sub-committees: fraternity/sorority life, residential
life, and campus life generally. Faculty views on all these subjects will be welcome.

SUMMER GRANTS. Faculty: A reminder that the deadline for summer grant applications
is Friday, October 28. Applications are available from the Provost's Office or from
Deans Wright, Maris, and Woodward. From: Provost Lou Brakeman
HARRY S. TRUMAN SCHOLARSHIP: The December 1 deadline for the Truman Scholarship
approaches, and I do not have a single applicant. Stetson has the right to nominate
three candidates. The maximum scholarship has been increased to $7,000 a year.
Outstanding sophomores with at least a "B" average, who are willing to consider a
career in public service are eligible for five years of free collegiate education.
