ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Stetson Jazz Ensemble under the direction of David Schmidt, will perform its first
concert of the year in the Edmunds Center on Saturday, October 24, at 8:00 p.m. The
band will perform a wide variety of selections ranging from jazz standards by Count
Basie and Hoagy Carmichael to contemporary charts by Les Hooper and Paul Baker. Come

The General Faculty Meeting on Thursday, October 29 will discuss the draft of the
Report to the Provost which has been prepared by the Task Force on Leadership
Development. A summary of that report follows. Complete copies of the 22-page draft
will be available in the offices of the academic deans and provost on Tuesday morning,

SUMMARY OF DRAFT OF REPORT OF TASK FORCE ON LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
This report recommends the creation of a comprehensive Leadership Development Program
in order to foster the awareness, study, and practice of responsible and effective
leadership by all members of the University community. The program would be
administered by a Council chaired by a Director of the Leadership Development Program.
It would comprise a broad range of curricular and co-curricular components. It would
aim to strengthen and expand the already existing curricular and co-curricular
activities of the University which have proved effective in promoting leadership
development, and it would supplement them with new opportunities. The report
envisions a program which would grant to students documentary certification of their
experiences in leadership development, but it does not view leadership education as a
discrete academic discipline which would constitute a major for a degree. The Task
Force has written this report with a view to what it believes an excellent leadership
program for Stetson should be like, and it has not allowed itself to be restricted by
considerations of financial limitations.
