TRIBUTE TO THE FACULTY
October 19-26 has been designated by the Council for Advancement
and Support of Education as National Higher Education Week. This
year's theme is "Honor Thy Faculty." It is "fitting and proper" for
us to join in this endeavor.
What do we say when we encourage parents to send their young
people to Stetson? Stetson has a well qualified faculty with
outstanding academic credentials and superior teaching ability.
What do we say when we are recruiting students? Our faculty is
second to none. They are outstanding scholars and they care about
their students. You will have the opportunity to know them
personally.
What do we say when we are telling our colleagues in other
colleges and universities about Stetson? The most distinctive
characteristic of Stetson is her faculty. Most have earned
doctorates and years of successful experience in teaching. In
addition to carrying heavy teaching loads they find time to be
publishing scholars and leaders in their professional fields.
What do we say when we speak to community groups? The
character of Stetson is identifiable in the lives of the faculty
members. They come from all over the world. They not only teach
and do research, but they become leaders in local government, civic
organizations, and church groups. They are committed to public
service.
