All faculty members, their family, friends, and students are invited to hear Dr. Marc
Lovelace give the first of the McEniry Centennial Lectures next Thursday, September 30,
at 8:30 p.m. in Elizabeth Hall. Dr. Lovelace will speak on "Pro Deo et Veritate:
Fact or Artifact?" As he says, his speech, "in an effort to intepret Stetson's motto,
will explore evidences from antiquity, the classical period and the Middle Ages. Is
this Latin phrase a Centennial slogan or a confession of commitment? Is it a mumbling of mythology or a reassertion of reality?"
Please put the following dates on your calendars: On Friday, October 1, the Dance
Alive group, this year's official traveling dance company for the state of Florida,
will perform at 8:00 p.m. in Elizabeth Hall. Their program will include a variety
of kinds of dance, chiefly ballet. On Tuesday, October 5, the Modern Brass Quintet
will perform, also at 8:00 p.m. in Elizabeth Hall. Both are Centennial offerings of
the Artists and Lecturers series.
The Winter Term Committee is pleased to announce that Professor Langdon Gilkey,
Shayler Mathews' Professor of Theology at the University of Chicago, will be on campus
January 26 and 27 to discuss the theme "The Interplay of Faith and Reason." Professor Gilkey's formal address entitled "The Creationist Controversy: Evolution and
God at Little Rock" will be delivered Wednesday, January 26 at 8:00 p.m. in Elizabeth
Hall Auditorium.
The committee would like to thank Dr. Donald Musser, who was instrumental in attracting
Professor Gilkey to our campus. Dr. Musser will be teaching our theme course in the
Humanities Division this Winter Term.
Faculty members in the College of Liberal Arts who are filing applications for release
time during the Winter Term are reminded that a proposal concerning their plans is
due in the Dean's Office.

Education at the University of Michigan is available in the Provost's office.
