Mrs. Sassard, our Registrar, has just informed me that our day-enrollment
for the current semester is 2015 which is a two percent increase from
last year. All of you who have worked in admissions and retention are
to be congratulated because this was achieved with slightly higher admission standards. /s/ Thomas J. Turner
I v/ould like also to express my appreciation to all who worked at registration. To finish in two days, allowing one more class day, was quite
a feat especially in view of the fact that our terminals were damaged

PHI BETA KAPPA APPLICATION - Will all faculty members in the College of
Liberal .Arts who are members of Phi Beta Kappa please call extension 210
(American Studies office) by September 15, and indicate the name of the
institution in which you received this honor. We are about to finalize
the list of distinguished alumni of the College of Liberal Arts. If you
have a nomination for this list, please get it to John Hague (Box 1255,
Ext. 210) by Monday September 15.
Faculty Members!! The Welfare Committee of the Faculty Senate exists to
explore questions concerning faculty welfare. If you have any such
questions please send them to Dr. Gary Maris, Dr. Robert Smith,, or
Dr. Derek Barkalow.
As part of the University Self-Study, this summer a survey of alumni who
graduated during the last ten years was conducted. A statistical summary
of the objective responses by alumni is on reserve in the library.
Questionnaires returned by alumni will later be made available to their
respective schools or departments. For further information, contact
Dick Kindred, ext. 300.
Dr. Rob Brady will present his paper "Verdictives, Self-presentation, and
Self-knowledge" in December at the annual meeting of the American Philosophical Association in Boston. An abstract of the paper will be published
prior to the meeting in the Journal of Philosophy. The paper will be
published in full in the spring in the Southern Journal of Philosophy.
