The Stetson University College of Law and the American Council on Education is
jointly sponsoring a conference on law and higher education "Issues and Challenges in the 1980's." The conference is to be held on the St. Petersburg
campus January 9-11, 1980. If any member of the faculty would like to examine
the program to consider attending the conference, a copy of the program is
available in the Office of the Dean of the University.
American Character and Culture in a Changing World: Some Twentieth-Century
Perspectives edited by John A. Hague has just been published by Greenwood Press.
It is one of a series of volumes which Greenwood publishes under the general
title Contributions in American Studies. This volume contains two essays
written by Dr. Hague and two essays written by Dr. Gerald E. Critoph. The
volume also contains two essays by Dr. David Marcell (Stetson '58) and one
essay by Dr. Bruce Lohof (A.B. '63, M.A. '65).
Dr. James C. Wright of the Speech & Theatre Department was recently named
Chairman of the University of College Division and a member of the Board of
Directors of the Florida Theatre Conference for 1979-80.
Reminder to Department Chairmen in Business and Liberal Arts: Tentative
departmental reports for the 1979-80 Self-Study should be sent to Maxine
Patterson, Box 1398, by Monday, October 15. A draft of the tentative report
should be made available to each department member so that his/her responses

The following students will be attending a Forensics tournament at Florida
College in Temple Terrace. These students will be leaving on Friday, October 12
and returning Sunday, October 14. They will miss one day of class, which will
be this Friday.

Dr. John Hague attended the Biennial Convention of the American Studies
Association in Minneapolis from September 28 to September 30. Dr. Hague was
elected Program Chairman for the next Biennial Convention which will be held
in Memphis, Tennessee.
