Dr. William Johnson's essay, "On the Literary Use of Myth," has appeared in The Power
of Myth in Literature and Film, ed. V. Carrabino (Tallahassee: University Presses of
Florida, 1980), pp. 24-34.
Please note that the University will observe its usual Thanksgiving holidays on Thursday
and Friday, November 27 & 28. Due to calendar this year's Christmas holiday period will
not be standard: the holiday will be observed from Noon, Wednesday, December 24,
Thursday, December 25, and Friday, December 26 (for this year only, the Christmas holiday will be for two and one-half working days). New Year's Day will be observed on
Thursday, January 1. Administrative and academic offices will be closed for these five

The next regular meeting of the Faculty Senate will be held in the Private Dining Room
(CUB) at 6:45 P.M., Tuesday, November 11. All faculty are invited to attend the meeting.
Michael W. Raymond of the Department of English read his essay "Affirmation Through
Mythic Pluralism in House Made of Dawn" for the American Literature section at the South
Atlantic Modern Language Association meeting in Atlanta, November 6-8.
Dr. Margaret W. Horton, Director of Student Teaching, and Shirley Mallory-Smith, Coordinator, attended the National Symposium for Professionals in Evaluation and Research
in Tallahassee on October 27-29, 1980. This project is sponsored by Phi Delta Kappa's
Center on Evaluation.
Dr. William Penrose, Adjunct Professor in the Department of Education, is the author
of an article which appeared in the September/October issue of Childhood Education, the
Journal of the Association for Childhood Education International. The title of the
article was "Piaget and the Teaching of Mathematics."
The telephone directories have been hand-delivered this week to each office/department
on the basis of one per telephone instrument. If you have not received yours, please
contact the Public Relations Office, ext. 340. There are some additional directories
for personal use available for 50 cents each.
