NEH Summer Stipends for 1980. Instructions and application forms for the
National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Stipends for 1980 are available
in the Office of the Vice President and Dean of the University. Deadline for
application is October 15, 1979.
A Fulbright program of visiting professors to U.S. campuses for all or part
of the 1980-81 academic year has been announced, with faculty available from
African countries, American Republics, East Asia, Eastern Europe, USSR, Near
East, North Africa, and South Asia. Institutional application deadline is
31 October 1979. Contact E. C. Coolidge for further information.
Dr. Gareth Williams of the Mathematics Department gave an invited lecture on
"Integrating the Computer into Linear Algebra", at the American Mathematical
Association Workshop on Microcomputers at Salisbury State College, Maryland,
in July.
Swim exemption tests will be given on the following dates:
Monday, September 17 from 7-8 p.m.
Wednesday, September 19 from 3:30-5:00 p.m.
Friday, September 21 from 3:30-5:00 p.m.
Test will not be given again this semester.
Unauthorized solicitors have been reported visiting faculty offices on the
campus with the purpose of buying unneeded books from faculty members.
University policy does not permit solicitors nor salespersons on campus except by personal invitation to an individual faculty member's office. To
assist faculty members in purging their shelves of unwanted books, the Hatter
Bookstore has arranged with a very reputable company to have one of its representatives on campus October 16, 1979. You may bring your books to the
Bookstore or have the representative visit your office by notifying Mr. Johnson
at the Bookstore.

The first Chapel of the year was very impressive by virtue of the music, the
word from the President and the attendance. I encourage Deans to encourage
Departmental Chairmen, and Departmental Chairmen to encourage students to
attend Chapel each week. Many who benefit from the sense of community
engendered by Chapel attendance do not realize how much greater the benefits
would be for all of us with greater attendance.

of previous Winter Term Programs have indicated each year that more Self-
Enrichment Courses were needed. Please consider sharing your special interest,
hobby, or talent with a group of students by teaching a Self-Enrichment Course
during Winter Term '80. Call Ext. 312 by Friday, Sept. 12, so that we can
discuss your idea, present it to the Winter Term Committee, and list your
course in the brochure.
