Preregistration for the Winter and Spring terms will take place November
11, 12 and 13 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Flagler Hall. Students
should begin signing up for appointments for advising the week of
November 3rd. They will get their registration appointment cards from
their advisers. These cards will be delivered to each department on
Friday, October 31st.
Michael W. Raymond's article "One Holistic Approach to Teaching Writing"
has been published in The Florida English Journal, V(1980), 30-34.
Dr. Eliane Norman, Department of Biology, attended a conference on
Endangered Species sponsored by the Audubon Society at Wekiva Springs
State Park, on October 24-25.
Dr. Thomas A. Lick, Associate Professor of Physics, and Dr. Thomas J.
Turner, Vice President and Dean of the University, have received an
equipment grant in the amount of $10,535.00 from the National Science
Foundation. The research project for which the equipment will be used
is a study of electron hole recombination luminescence in refractory
oxides. The grant will be used to purchase a complete microcomputer
system for both the acquisition and manipulation of data obtained in
this research which will be conducted by Dr. Lick and Dr. Turner at
Stetson University. The computerized data acquisition equipment will
greatly increase the research capability of the Physics Department by
reducing the time involved in the analysis of experimental results.
A paper on previous work done in this area by Dr. Lick and Dr. Turner
was presented at the last meeting of the Southeastern Section of the
American Physical Society, at Chattanooga, Tennessee.
