The following actions were taken by the Faculty Senate during their September 6th meeting:

By consensus it was agreed that the Senate will place a book in the
library in memory of Delia Chauvin's mother who passed away
recently.
Chairman Lovelace provided a report of his July 27th conversation
with President Duncan. Many items of concern to the faculty were
discussed including the composition of the Budget Advisory Committee faculty representation at trustee meetings, the criteria for
awarding honorary degrees, the importance of long-range planning,
the upcoming endowment campaign, new buildings, the broader
issue of overall campus planning. Many other items of interest
are to be discussed at future meetings between the President and
the Executive Committee of the Senate.
Senator Harry Garber was elected as one of the three members of
the Academic Freedom and Tenure Committee, continuing their
service as members of this committee are Senators Fort and
Lovelace.
4) For reasons of cost consideration, the Senate decided to discontinue the meal preceding regular Senate meetings. It was also
decided to hold the next meeting of the Senate in the Faculty Lounge
Just a reminder: Please complete the Winter Term Course Description form and
return it to Dr. Brad Crain, Box 1249, as soon as possible but no later than September 21.

The Post Office Box number given for Dr. Cannon on p. 5 of last week's faculty bulletin
is in error. It should be 1383 instead of 1388.
The Phoenix (the faculty discussion group) will meet for the first time this year on
September 30th at 12:00 noon in the private dining room. The paper for presentation has
yet to be selected. If you want to share the earth shattering results of your summer
research with your colleagues, now is your chance. Contact either Rob Brady, Ext. 274
or Bill Johnson, Ext. 274 or Paul Steeves, Ext. 483.
Correction: Dr. Raymond Cannon will serve as Chairman of the Educational Policies
Committee for the Faculty Senate, replacing Dr. Bradford Crain.
