The University will observe the Thanksgiving holidays Thursday and Friday, November 22 and 23.
Christmas holidays will be observed Monday and Tuesday, December 24 and 25; and New Year's Day
will be observed on Tuesday, January 1, 1980. Administrative and academic offices will be

Michael W. Raymond, Department of English, read his paper "One Holistic Approach to Advanced
Writing" at the South Atlantic Modern Language Association meeting in Atlanta, Ga., Nov. 1-3.
Dr. Gary Maris presented a paper titled "International Rhetoric and Commodity Agreements -
Sound and Fury Signifying Nothing?" at the Southern Political Science Association meeting,
November 2.
Dr. Eliane Norman, Department of Biology, attended the Science Careers for Women conference
held at University of Central Florida on November 3 and was co-leader in a workshop dealing
with financing a graduate education.
Dr. John K. Schorr presented a paper entitled: "The Credibility of Government and Utility
Officials in the Aftermath of Three Mile Island" at the annual meeting of the Pennsylvania
Sociological Society which was held on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. The
paper was coauthored by Raymond Goldsteen of the U.S. Public Health Service and John Martin
of CU.N.Y.
Lauri Jackson from the Form Committee has written asking for support from the faculty for the
University Forum which is to be held on November 16 & 17. I would like to add a word of encouragement to the faculty and urge you to participate. Last year I participated in the Forum
and found it to be a very fine event and I look forward to my participation this year. Our
students need our encouragement in these matters and I urge you to consider in joining us for

ATTENTION FACULTY !! November 12 & 13 (Monday & Tuesday) will be the last chance to have your
portrait taken for the 1980 HATTER yearbook. A photographer will be taking pictures at the
back of the Carlton Union Building. Please call or drop by. Thank you.
The follwoing students missed class November 7,8 & 9, 1979 to participate in the State intercollegiate Golf Tournament in Sebring: Mark Heartfield, Steve Todd, Earl Hunt, Kevin Lawrence,
Mike Benevento, Chuck Kandt.
The following students will be involved in programs presented for the Florida Baptist Convention
Historical Committee at the Florida Baptist Convention on Tuesday, March 13, 1979 and will miss
all classes on November 13: Bruce Causey, Tim Holland, Diane Housam, Gerold Norwood, Stephen
Spurlock.
Dr. Brad Crain has been invited to read his paper titled "Masks, Mirrors, and Magic: Autobiography as Fantasy in the Writings of Hermann Hesse" at the First International Conference
on the Fantastic in Literature and Film, Florida Atlantic University, March 19-22, 1980.
