Professor Fred Messersmith, Chairman of the Art Department, has been named the Distinguished
Alumni Artist for Homecoming Activities at his Alma Mater, Ohio Wesleyan University, October
22, 23. He will give a lecture and display 23 works in the gallery. Mrs. Jane Messersmith,
a graduate of the same institution, will accompany Fred as guests of Ohio Wesleyan.
Dr. Evans Johnson and Dr. Gerald Critoph presented a program on Saturday morning, October 16,
entitled "Approaches to Teaching History," at the 19th annual statewide social studies convention sponsored by the Florida Council of Social Studies, held in Daytona Beach. They met
several Stetson alumni who are now teaching social studies in public schools in Florida.
The Accounting Department of the School of Business is extremely proud of the performance
of the senior accounting class on the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants
Level II National Achievement test which was administered September, 1976. We had 38 students take the examination. 21 of the 38 were in the 91-99 national percentile ranking.
Another 11 of the 38 students ranked in the 79-89 percentile.

The fall semester Grade Inventory will be Monday, October 25th. Please report to the
Registrar's Office even if you have no unsatisfactory grades.
Monday, November 1st, is the deadline for submitting new or changed Bulletin-Catalogue copy
to Dr. Langford, at Box 1305. Please check carefully your current course listings and departmental descriptions and send in necessary changes now.

The Faculty Discussion Group (the Phoenix) will hold its first meeting on October 29 at
12:00 noon in the private dining room of the CUB (Please note the changed time and date).
Dr. Steeves will read his paper "Amendments to the Soviet Legislation on Religion, 1975."
Copies will be available ahead of time in the History Department. If you have any questions
about the group, please contact Dr. Brady, (ext. 330) or Dr. Johnson (ext. 246).
The second musical event in the Artists and Lecturers series will be a recital by internationally-acclaimed French baritone, Gerard Souzay. His pianist will be Dalton Baldwin,
with whom he has made many recordings.
The recital will be Tuesday, October 26 at 8:00 p.m., in Elizabeth Hall. There will also be
a Master Class for School of Music (or any other") students. Wednesday noon, the 27th.
