The ban against smoking in all University classrooms is still in effect. It has
never been lifted. Numerous complaints are being filed concerning smoking in
classrooms by students and instructors, and the object of this notice is to remind
you that no one may smoke in any classroom on the campus including the classrooms in the basement of the Library where many of the complaints appear to
originate. Please make this announcement to your classes, if necessary.
Economy and security demand that all buildings on campus be locked during the
vacation period. The security guard has been given instructions to open no
buildings for anyone during the holiday period. Please do not send students to
the deans for authority to open buildings because the buildings cannot be opened
for study or activities during the holidays. Thank you.
Please help the Harry L. Taylor Prize in Humanities Committee disseminate
information to likely candidates about the writing competition essay for this year.
The prize remains at $700 to apply to tuition for the recipient's senior year.
Applicants should be juniors whose hours accumulation fall within the range of
64-102 and who have completed two years of undergraduate work at Stetson.
This year, the general topic is: "Design for Life" with the following suggested
sub-topics: (1) "Search for a New Synthesis, " (2) "Quest for the Human Form, "
(3) "Search for Wholeness in the Late Twentieth Century, " and (4) "Search for
Wholeness in the Self and the Self in Relationship to the World Around. " Essay
deadlines are as follows: for sub-topic submission, February 14, 1975; for the
final paper, April 11, 1975 (noon). Committee members to whom students may
be referred are: Dr. Jesse L. Berry, Dr. Rob Brady, Ms. Kathleen Johnson
(Chairman), and Dr. William C. Johnson (Secretary of Humanities Division).
The cardiac screening mobile unit will be parked between the South Wing of
Chaudoin and Hulley Tower December 10th and December 17th.

Warren McWilliams, Assistant Professor in the Department of Religion, has
completed all requirements for his Ph.D. in the Graduate Department of Religion
at Vanderbilt University. He successfully defended his dissertation in Nashville
on November 25, 1974, and the degree will be awarded in December, 1974. The
dissertation is entitled "Hegel and Transcendence: The Riddle of the Phenomenology. "
