Deans' Meeting - President's Office
Monday and Tuesday, October 6 and 7 are the dates for the Stetson Fall Blood Drive. The
Red Cross will have staff and facilities set up in the Stetson Room-CUB on Monday from
11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 11:00 a. m. to 3:00 p.m. We would appreciate
your making this announcement to your class members. Please do what you can and
encourage others to do so.

Faculty Advisor for Blood Drive
The Faculty Senate met September 15, 1975. The Committee on Tenure and Academic
Freedom was elected: Dr. Edwin Coolidge (Chairman), Mrs. Kathleen Johnson, and Dr.
Earl Joiner. It was announced that Dean Chauvin would discuss the tenure policy with the
Senate at the meeting November 4, 1975. New Senators Dr. James Coffee (replacing Mrs.
Ella Mae Shearon) and Dr. Charles Vedder (replacing Dr. Frank Glamser) were welcomed.
The need to improve faculty salaries was considered. This concern will be considered
again at the meeting October 7, 1975.

The Mathematics Department has recently been awarded two National Science Foundation
Grants. A $20, 000 award was made towards the purchase of the computer. A second
grant will enable Dr. Cannon and Dr. Williams to develop mathematical models.
Congratulations to Mr. Fred Messersmith, Chairman of the Art Department, whose
"Eclipse-Color Series No. 10" won the Alabama Council on the Arts and Humanities
cash award of $200. This is Mr. Messersmith's fifth award in the Alabama show since
1964.
Richard Kindred, a member of the Psychology Departmentsuccessfully defended his
dissertation at Brandeis University on July 1, 1975. His degree will be awarded in
January, 1976.
