A recent omission of an accident report suggests that all department chairmen, budget
supervisors and any University staff member responsible for other University employees
be reminded of reporting requirements. The Occupational Safety and Health Act requires the
University to keep detailed records of any work-related illness, injury or death. They will
be inspected by the U. S. Department of Labor. Any incident of special work-related
mishap must be reported in writing to the Business Manager immediately after the incident.
This narrative report is needed in addition to any workman's compensation insurance reports
which might be necessary for claim purposes. Thank you for your concerned attention to
this requirement.
Summary of Faculty Senate Business:
At its meeting on December 5, 1972, President Johns and Mr. Edmondson responded to the
Senate Welfare Committee's recommendation concerning faculty salaries. Because of
increased budgetary demands and frozen resources (i. e. , tuition), the President indicated
that an increase in salaries beyond the usual (last year's average was 4.6%) would require a
decrease in supportive budgets. He pledged, however, that faculty salaries would "get the
lion's share of what we're able to do. " He voiced his belief that "financial stability -
prosperity -- is just around the corner. "
After a brief recess, Senator Andrews moved that the Faculty Senate recommend to the
President a tuition increase for the purpose of supporting the instructional budget and
student financial aid in order to maintain the high quality faculty and general academic
excellence for which Stetson is known. The motion, seconded by Senator Bailey, passed
unanimously.
Senator Morris read a recommendation from the Student Affairs Committee on the Winter
Term.
