Final reminder of the annual meeting of the Stetson Credit Union of January 24 at 3:30 p. m.
in Room 204 - 205, C. U. B.
Artists and Lecturers will present the National Shakespeare Company in Sophocles' ANTIGONE
the evening of January 24, at the Stover Theatre, at 8:00 p. m. It is necessary for faculty and
students to obtain tickets by showing their I. D. cards. Tickets may be obtained at the office
in DeLand Hall the mornings of January 22 and January 23, or at the Stover box office between
3:00 p. m. and 5:00 p. m. the same afternoons. On January 24, they will be available to the
general public only. There will be no reserved seats. Please make this announcement to all
your classes.
The following students were absent from classes on Wednesday, January 17 and Thursday,
January 18 to participate in the By 398 - 498 Winter Term Field Trip, at Periwinkle Park,
Sanibel Island: James Bennett; Robin Cort; Judy Daly; Denise French; Judith Hammond;
Craig Hewitt; May F. Mixon; Mary J. Repasky; Douglas Sacks; James Sasser; Karen Terrell;
Gordon Tracy. Professors Fuller and Knapp will accompany the group.
Summary of Faculty Senate Business:
The Faculty Senate met in regular session at 6:45, Tuesday, January 9. Those present were
Dr. Beiler, Dr. Coolidge, Mr. Feasel, Dr. Fox, Dr. Hansen, Dr. Jenkins, Dr. Knapp,
Dr. Lovelace, Dr. Lycan, Dr. Morris and Dr. Margaret Wood.
Chairman Morris welcomed Mrs. Janice Jenkins who is to represent the Music School for the
rest of this year while Mrs. Eleanor Leek is on Sabbatical Leave. Dr. Morris reported that
the Committee on Committees had met and sent to the President a recommendation regarding
the responsibilities and the membership of the Winter Term Policies Committee.
After other committee reports, Dr. Coolidge raised the question of why faculty and students
were charged admission for the recent Basketball Tournament and whether the Jaycees, who
were collecting the admission, got all the proceeds. This initiated a discussion of the role of
the sports program, the Physical Education Department, and the Athletic Committee in relation
to the total academic program of the University. It was moved (Dr. Lycan, Dr. Lovelace)
that the Educational Policies Committee be asked to look into the matter and report to the
Senate at the February meeting.
