Alumni News ~ Fall 2008
A Message from the President of the Alumni Association
I am honored to have been selected
to serve as your new Alumni
Association president
and look forward to building
on the great track record
of my predecessors. They
have done an excellent job
in strengthening the Alumni
Board and making it the vital
organization it is today. The
Alumni Board is aligned to
closely match the mission
and objectives of the Board of
Trustees.
Representing the alumni
voice and further enhancing
the bonds between Stetson
alumni and the university is a serious
responsibility for your board. In last fall's
alumni survey (the survey results are
highlighted on pages 9-11), a majority of
you shared that you remain connected
because of the relationships you formed
in some way with Stetson during your
time here. The Alumni Association
wants to further that relationship and
your bonds to the university. I encourage
you to reach out to board members
in your area to find out how you can
Bill Gray '89
get more actively involved, to hear
university updates, or to connect with
other Hatters. A listing of
Alumni Board members can
be found on page 15, and
their contact information
can be found online at www.
stetson.edu/alumni/, under
the "Get Involved" tab.
This is an especially
exciting year, as we focus on
Stetson's 125th Anniversary
and the retirement of
President Doug and First
Lady Margaret Lee,
who will be leaving an
extraordinary legacy. There
is a quote, shared by Trustee Mark
Hollis '56, Hon. '89, that I think aptly
describes Stetson University as we
celebrate these milestones and look
forward to the coming years: "Stetson
University stands today on the mountain
peaks of its past, yet in the foothills of its
future." Please join with us, reach out,
get engaged, support your alma mater,
and be a proud Stetson Hatter!

Watch for 125th Commemorativ
Magazine Coming Out This Fall
Stetson University is publishing a special
commemorative magazine this fall in
celebration of its 125th Anniversary as
our gift to members of the Stetson family. The
special edition will focus on the transformation
the university has undergone, especially since
Stetson's centennial in 1983, in Stetson's
seven core value areas: religious and spiritual
life, ethical decision-making, diversity, gender
equity, environmental responsibility, community
engagement, and health and wellness.
It will also include a 125-year timeline of
Stetson's history and
photographs and
stories about some
of the people-
faculty, students,
alumni, staff and
supporters-who
have been
involved in the
transformation.
Watch for your
copy in the mail later this fall. Extra
