IMPORTANT EVENTS

The Faculty Senate will meet in the auditorium of Davis Hall at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday,
January 19. The purpose of the meeting will be to hear a report from President Johns
about next year's budget. This, like all Faculty Senate meetings, is open to all faculty
members.
A reminder that the annual meeting of the Stetson Credit Union will be held Monday,
January 18 at 3:00 p.m. in Room 204, Carlton Union Building.
The Public Relations Office has again had some yearly calendars printed for your use.
These calendars are desk size and cannot be put in the mail. Anyone desiring some
may pick them up at 119 West Minnesota Avenue.
The Chemistry Department has just been awarded a National Science Foundation Student
Summer Research Grant of $5,750. The funds will be used for work by four chemistry
majors under the guidance of Dr. Morris Regan and Dr. Kenneth Everett. Grants were
made to 114 schools throughout the nation. Stetson was the only private institution among
the four recipients in Florida.
Chemistry Scores Again! ! ! 1) Dr. Morris Reagan and Mr. Patrick Ho presented a
paper at the Combined Southeast-Southwest Regional Meeting of the American Chemical
Society in New Orleans on December 3 entitled "The Staundinger Reaction of Carbamyl
Azides. •* This paper is the outcome of one of Dr. Reagan's undergraduate research
projects, and represents some excellent work by both Dr. Reagan and Mr. Ho.
2) Dr. Beiler has been elected Councilor of the Florida Section of the American
Chemical Society to represent Florida's 1500 chemists in the Council of the American
Chemical Society in the period 1971-73.
The West Volusia Council on Human Relations will hold its annual installation banquet on
the 26th of January at 6:30 p.m. in the Stetson Room. The speaker will be the Superintendent, Mr. Ray Dunne. Tickets are $1.75 each and may be purchased from Dr. Andrews
or Dr. Maris. If you will call their secretary (234 or 348) tickets will be sent to you.
