It is the purpose of the Senate to "represent the Faculty in. all matters of University policy
and program. The Faculty by a majority vote may review any action of the Senate. "
The purpose of the Welfare Committee is to explore all areas
related to the welfare of the faculty and especially to deal with
significant sources of tension and dissatisfaction which may
exist at any time within the University community.
The purpose of the Educational Policies Committee is to explore
areas of particular concern to the on-going academic program
of the University. In years past, the Committee has studied
admissions policies, the graduate program, off-campus programs,
and matters related to existing instructional practices. The
Committee frequently seeks more effective ways of implementing
existing policies and sometimes recommends policy changes.
The Committee on Tenure and Academic Freedom is a standing
committee which exists to investigate all cases in which any
member of the community claims a violation of the rules regarding
tenure or academic freedom.
The Committee on Honorary Degrees nominates candidates for
honorary degrees to the Board of Trustees.
Every committee of the Senate will welcome suggestions from any member of the University
community.
