History Exemption Test will be given Wednesday, February 5, at 1:30 p.m. in 311 Elizabeth.
This exam will cover HY 102 (Western Civilization, second semester), and students who
wish to attempt the exam are urged to do so. There is no charge. Students should register
for the exam with Mrs. Abernathy in the Counseling Center or inform Dr. Wynn of the
History Department.
Ralph Pugh's thesis on Little Known Signers of the Declaration of Independence, which he
wrote under Professor Lycan's direction, received special commendation in the competition
for the best thesis written on Colonial history. Mr. Pugh will be given this award at the
annual meeting of the Society of the Colonial Dames of the XVII Century.
Mr. Malvin Phoenix, Chief Engineer, North American Rockwell Aviation, will present an
illustrated lecture on the Apollo 8 lunar mission at 7 p.m. on January 21 in the auditorium
of Davis Hall. The 90-minute program will include both still and motion pictures of the
moon trip, including such items as separation of the module in space, motion pictures of
the earth from a distance of fifty miles, and recently developed motion pictures of the moon.
The lecture will be open to the public without charge.

Word has beetn received that Sara Jernigan has been named Director of the Fifth National
Institute on Girls Sports, sponsored by the Women's Board of the United States Olympic
Development Committee and Division for Girls' and Women's Sports of the American Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation. The Institute will be held at the
University of Illinois, January 21-25. Our congratulations to Sara!
