The Faculty Senate in special session on February 29 passed the following motions:
1. "Stetson University's Faculty Senate through existing channels (the President of
the University) requests the Board of Trustees to appoint a Committee on Academic
Freedom which will meet at its earliest convenience with the Executive Committee of the
Senate to discuss its misunderstanding arising from Trustees' Resolution #68-2, which
was issued as part of the disposition of the recent Gregory case. "
2. "The Senate recommends retention of the present academic calendar including
the winter term for the College of Liberal Arts and the School of Music. "
3. "The Senate recommends that all schools on the DeLand campus be on the same
academic calendar. "
In regular session on the St. Petersburg campus on March 7, the Senate voted "to
urge the administration and trustees to give high priority to the inauguration of a
sabbatical policy for tenure faculty. "
It also voted an expression of appreciation to Dean Sebring for the hospitality extended
to the Senate on that occasion, and at the Inns of Court dinner which followed. Other
items discussed included the effect of the new draft regulations on law school enrollment,
the granting of quality points for chapel attendance, eligibility for Senate membership
and for General Faculty status, and the motions passed on February 29.
The Parents' Weekend Committee wants to thank faculty and administration for helping
with the coffees.
Ed Coolidge will be at Bennett College, Greensboro, North Carolina, from March 10 to
March 13 as a member of a visiting committee on accreditation from the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools.
Dr. Ray V. Sowers has moved his office from Elizabeth Hall to the Department of
Teacher Education, Room 40L. His telephone extension is 236.
