At the annual meeting of the Florida Historical Society, May 3-4, Dr. John Johns was
elected Vice-President. He will serve a two-year term. In recent years both Dr.
Johns and Dr. Lycati have been actively involved in the leadership of the Society.
John Evans successfully defended his doctoral dissertation before his committee at
the University of North Carolina on May 3. His Ph. D. will be awarded in August.

The Stetson Concert Choir,under the director of Professor Harold M Giffin.will give
give its annual home concert Tuesday, May 14th in Elizabeth Hall at 8:30 p.m. All
are invited to attend.
Response to the Faculty Senate plan for group life insurance is highly favorable, with
48 yes and onlf 16 no. Please rush your decision to P. O. Box 1251 to complete the
count. Send a ty questions to Graves Edmondson, Bill Anderson, or Byron Gibson.
Loyd Hilton will serve as chairman of the Information Committee for the annual meeting
of the South Atlantic Modern Language Association in Jacksonville next November. Thus
Stetson will be one of the co-hosts with Jacksonville University, and Stetson members
from English and from Modern Foreign Languages will man the information desk.
Jay Evans has won one of the most coveted graduate awards, an NDEA Fellowship in
English at Duke. The fellowship covers three years, paying $2000, $2200, and $2400.
Cindy McClain has been awarded a University of North Carolina Fellowship of $2100
and waiver of out-of-state tuition to specialize in Linguistics. Congratulations to her
and to the English Department
Bruce Bradford has accepted a fellowship for graduate work in Geography at Pennsylvania
State University. He was offered a teaching assistantship at Ohio State, Northwestern,
Washington, and Kent State.
