SUMMARY OF THE COLLEGE DRAFT DEFERMENT PLAN
This statement is provided by the American Council on Education. We believe it
of value in interpreting the so-called "Hershey Plan" to students, parents, and the
public. Details of the Selective Service College Qualification Test are not includ-.,
edj the official bulletin describing the test may be obtained in Dr. Hood's office.
Please note that this is not a directive: the A.C.E. indicates that the following
details are those suggested by Selective Service and "will most probably be final
procedures to be adopted." Your attention is especially directed to the final section in which the A.C.E. summarizes typical questions and objectives. C.H.H.
1, WHAT IS THE PLAN? The following students will be deferred:
a. Students in a professional school of medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine
osteopathy, or optometry for whom the school in which they are enrolled
certifies that they are satisfactorily pursuing a full-time course of
instruction leading to their graduation.
b. Full-time graduate students seeking a graduate degree for whom the school
attended certifies that tney are currently meeting degree requirements and
are expected to attain their degree.
c* Students accepted for admission to a graduate or professional school who,
in their last full-time undergraduate year at a college, or similar
institution of learning, had a scholastic standing in the UPPER HALF of
the male members of that class OR attained a score at or above the finally
determined cutting score on the SELECTIVE SERVICE COLLEGE QUALIFICATION
TEST.
d. Students pursuing a course of instruction that requires five or six years
of full-time undergraduate work to qualify for the first academic degree,
and who have successfully completed the fourth or fifth year with a
scholastic standing in the UPPER THREE-FOURTHS of the male members of the
last class attended, OR have attained a score at or above the finally
determined cutting score on the SELECTIVE SERVICE COLLEGE QUALIFICATION
TEST and have been accepted for admission to the following year.
e. Students who have successfully completed the third year at a college,
university, or similar institution of higher learning, who stand in the
UPP^R-^/THREE/* FOURTHS of the male members of the last class attended OR
hav.3 attained a score at or above the finally determined cutting score on
the SELECTIVE SERVICE COLLEGE QUALIFICATION TaST and nave been accepted
for c.dmission to the following year.
f. Students who have successfully completed the second year at a college,
university, or similar institution of learning, who stand in the UPPiiit TWO-
THIRLS of the male members of the last class attended OR have attained a
score at or abova the finally determined cutting score on the test and
have been accepted for admission to the following year.
g. Students who have successfully completed the first year in a college,
university, or similar institution of learning, who stand in tne UPPER HALF
